NL4D

The Northern Limb of the Bushveld Complex is host to the world’s largest resource of platinum-group elements (PGE), along with significant nickel, copper and cobalt. The Northern Limb 4D (NL4D) project, funded through the NL4D consortium grant by Anglo American, is a multidisciplinary approach to developing a holistic model of the northern Bushveld mineralisation.

This 4 year research project between research institutions Cardiff University, University of Exeter (Camborne School of Mines), University of Leicester in conjunction with industry partner Anglo American aims to improve understanding of one of the world’s largest base and precious metal ore deposits. This research will in turn benefit more energy efficient exploration, mining and processing of PGE, Cu, Ni and Co as exploration and mining activities in the Northern Limb are expanding.
